WILSON/SAMSA CAPTURE WHEELCHAIR MIXED DOUBLES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists at the Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Nationals, held at the Kettle Moraine Curling Club in Delafield, WI.

Pam Wilson and David Samsa defended their USA Curling Wheelchair Mixed Doubles National title at the Kettle Moraine Curling Club this week, finishing the round-robin with a perfect 6-0 record. This is the second Wheelchair Mixed Doubles National Championship for Wilson and Samsa, who captured the inaugural event last season.

The team of Laura Dwyer and Shawn Sadowski earned the silver medal, finishing the event with a 4-2 record. At the conclusion of the round-robin three teams were tied with 3-3 records—Terri Meadows and David Box, Stacey Rice and Steve Emt, and Matt Thums and Oyuna Uranchimeg. The Charlotte-based team of Meadows/Box had the best overall Draw Shot Challenge score and earned the bronze, their first medal at a national championship. The seven-team field featured teams from across the country. All 2022 Paralympians—Samsa, Wilson, Thums, Emt, Uranchimeg—competed in Kettle Moraine.

A scheduling quirk means the Wilson/Samsa team has won this title twice in the same calendar year, since last year’s event was held in January of 2022. After representing the country in Finland in 2022, Wilson and Samsa will now be Team USA at the 2023 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, scheduled for March 4th through 12th in Richmond, BC, Canada. Final standings and linescores are available here.
