take the training.

SafeSport training was developed by the United States Olympic Committee as part of a nationwide initiative to recognize, reduce, and respond effectively to inappropriate and potentially harmful behavior in sport. The U.S. Center for SafeSport now owns the training and sets requirements to uphold the nationwide initiative.

The program is available at no cost to members of USA Curling and can be accessed through your Member Profile in the MyUSACurling portal.

As of January 1, 2014, all individuals that USA Curling formally authorizes, approves, or appoints to a position of authority over, or to have frequent contact with athletes, must be SafeSport certified. These individuals include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • All coaches, including those at USA Curling events, championships, and playdowns leading to championship events

  • All officials serving in the capacity of chief umpire or deputy chief umpire at a USA Curling championship or other event, including all active Level III apprentices

  • The Head Ice Technician at a USA Curling championship or event

  • The chair of the organizing committee of the USA Curling U18 and U21 Junior National Championships

  • All course conductors for USA Curling Sport Education classes

  • Level I (or higher) certified instructors

  • Volunteers and paid consultants at junior camps or any other junior program receiving financial or administrative support from the USCA

  • All USA Curling employees, including National Team staff, and members of the Board

  • All non-athletes authorized by USA Curling to reside, train, or work at an Olympic Training Center

  • All athletes receiving funding from USA Curling, representing the United States in curling at world championship events, and/or designated for the required USADA testing pool

In addition, clubs are encouraged to have their members, especially those who work with youth, participate in the training. Successful completion of all evaluation exercises is required to be certified. More information can be found in the USA Curling SafeSport Handbook. To access and complete the SafeSport Training, or if you have questions about training requirements or your current status, please contact USCASafeSport@usacurling.org.
