background screening

USA Curling has implemented a screening program through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) in order to prevent known offenders from being placed in a position of authority in events or programs sponsored by the organization.

Annual background checks are required of individuals that USA Curling formally authorizes, approves, or appoints to a position of authority over, or to have frequent contact with, athletes. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the following individuals:

  • All coaches, including those at USA Curling events, championships, and playdowns leading to championship events

  • All officials serving in the capacity of chief umpire or deputy chief umpire at a USA Curling championship or other event, including all active Level III apprentices

  • The Head Ice Technician at a USA Curling championship or event

  • The chair of the organizing committee for the USA Curling Junior National Championship;

  • All course conductors for USA Curling Sport Education classes

  • All volunteers at junior camps or any other junior program receiving financial or administrative support from USA Curling

  • All USA Curling employees, including National Team staff, and members of the Board

  • All non-athletes who are authorized by USA Curling to reside, train, or work at an Olympic Training Center
