ELMER FREYTAG

Aside from embodying integrity, sportsmanship, and honorable character, Mr. Elmer Freytag worked tirelessly to enhance the sport of curling at home and overseas.

As a key organizer in developing the International Curling Federation and the co-captain of the first United States Men’s Curling Association team to travel to Scotland, Freytag was known early on for his contributions to the sport, as well as his curling prowess.

Closer to home, Mr. Elmer Freytag served as the president of the United States Men’s Curling Association President, and helped create the Chicago Curling Club, which was the first indoor curling facility in the state of Illinois.

Notably, Mr. Elmer Freytag coached the Bud Somerville rink of Superior, WI, making history as the first American team to win the Men’s World Curling Championship in 1965.

With commendable on-ice talent, Mr. Freytag’s commitment and willingness to utilize his sport intelligence to better others around him truly made him an admirable figure in the curling world.
