TEAM USA MOVES TO 2-3 AT 2022 PARALYMPIC GAMES

After trailing to Norway for eight ends, Team USA (Matt Thums, Steve Emt, David Samsa, Oyuna Uranchimeg, and Pam Wilson) found victory, gaining its second win of the round robin portion of the tournament at the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

The fifth round-robin matchup for the Americans didn’t look promising after trailing by three against Norway in the fourth end.

In the fifth end, the U.S. had an opportunity to score two points to narrow the deficit, but a wreck on a guard resulted in just a single to make the score 4-2.

In the second half of the game, the United States made a couple lineup adjustments, moving Oyuna Uranchimeg from fifth to lead and switching last rocks from Matt Thums to Steve Emt.

Whether it was the lineup adjustment or a newfound momentum after the break, Team USA battled back, scoring two in the seventh end to narrow Norway’s lead to only a single.

Trailing by one point without hammer in the final end, Team USA strung together eight made shots to put the pressure on the Norwegians.

The United States sat counting three points when Norway attempted a double takeout on its last stone. Norway only removed one stone and rolled out of the rings, resulting in two stolen points and a 6-5 victory for the United States.

The victory over Norway moves the U.S. to a 2-3 overall record with five round robin games remaining.

The United States will face China in the next matchup on March 8th at 5:35am (CST).
