INTENT TO COMPETE: MIXED DOUBLES, JUNIOR, MEN’S, AND WOMEN’S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The process for determining the fields for the 2023 Men’s/Women’s, Mixed Doubles, and Junior Men’s/Women’s Nationals is different than it has been in past years as there are now multiple avenues that provide opportunities for teams to compete and secure berths in these national championships.

To track these added opportunities for qualification and provide clarity to teams seeking qualification to the above national championships, teams will need to submit an Intent to Compete form.

This required form is free of charge and will only need to be submitted by one member of the team for each national championship the team intends to qualify for. Should a team lineup change prior to a qualification event, a new form will need to be submitted by the deadlines outlined below.

By completing the Intent to Compete form, USA Curling will be able to provide updated standings on a weekly basis as teams compete for national championship qualification, as well as help qualification event hosts understand the qualification berth scenario ahead of their event.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

To earn berths through the WCF World Team Rankings, teams will need to both register on curlingzone.com (necessary to earn points in the WCF World Team Rankings), and submit their Intent to Compete by the following dates:

  • Mixed Doubles Nationals: by 11:59pm (CT) on October 7, 2022

  • Women’s and Men’s Nationals: by 11:59pm (CT) on November 4, 2022

  • U21 Junior Women’s and U21 Junior Men’s Nationals: by 11:59pm (CT) on October 28, 2022

To earn a berth through a Qualifying Event, teams must submit the Intent to Compete form at least one week in advance of the first draw of that Qualifying Event.

  • Teams need to submit the Intent to Compete form only once, either by the dates for berths available through WCF World Team Rankings, or one week in advance of any Qualifying Event.

  • Only one form per team per national championship is required.

  • In the event a team registers for a Qualifying Event, fails to qualify, and then replaces players on the team roster, a new Intent to Compete form will need to be submitted in advance of the next Qualifying Event.

  • To compete at any of these world-leading National Championships (Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Doubles, Junior Men’s, Junior Women’s), teams will need Three of Four or Three of Five of the players from the team that played when the berth was earned.

  • Specific event qualification procedures can be found in the 2022-2023 Rules of Competition

As teams earn berths in any of these National Championships (Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Doubles, Junior Men’s, Junior Women’s) through either their position in the WCF World Team Rankings or a Qualifying Event, they will receive an invite within a week of qualifying with specific registration details from USA Curling.

If your team has any plans to compete for and accept a berth in any of these National Championships, complete and submit an Intent to Compete form by the required deadlines listed above.

The link and eligibility requirement for the Intent to Compete form has been added to the qualification procedure documents for Men’s and Women’s National Championships, Junior National Championships, and the Mixed Doubles National Championship.

If you have questions regarding the Intent to Compete or any qualification procedures, please attend the Qualifying Procedures Town Hall on Wednesday, September 21st at 7 PM Central Time. Registration to follow.
