On Mar. 31 - Apr. 3, 2022, the Fort Wayne Curling Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana hosted the nation’s top boys and girls curlers under the age of 18 for the 2022 U18 National Championships.

Introduced to USA Curling in 2017, the U18 National Championships are a regional-based, geographic championship. While the U18 National Championships do not lead to a world championship, they do serve as an added competitive experience to help develop junior curlers.

On the girls’ side, the field was made up of 14 teams from across the country, including: Wisconsin (2), Minnesota (4), Colorado, North Dakota (2), Arizona, Ohio, Massachusetts (2), and Michigan.

The format of the Championships was a double knockout with a consolation bracket.

At the conclusion of the double knockout bracket, it was Team Scheel (Miranda Scheel, Tessa Thurlow, Rilee Kraft, and Ella Fleming) from the Dakotas region that came out on top.

After falling to Team Ryhorchuk in the qualifier game of the A-event, Team Scheel rattled off three consecutive wins on Championship Sunday to secure the national title!

USA Curling is sponsored by Columbia Sportswear, Toyota, Twin Cities Orthopedics, Training HAUS, Brakebush, ISS (Ice, Sports & Solar), and Sitrin, and is partnered with IHG, Rock Solid Productions Inc., Laurie Artiss Ltd. – The Pin People.
