The American team of Cory Christensen, Sarah Anderson, Vicky Persinger, Taylor Anderson, and Sydney Mullaney opened the World Women’s Curling Championship 2022 with back-to-back wins over Czech Republic and Italy.

With a 2-0 record and hopes of carrying the winning momentum into the next matchup against Japan, Team USA suffered its first lost. Despite the loss, the Christensen-skipped rink played well against an unbeaten Japanese team, losing only on the final rock of the game.

On Monday afternoon, Team USA lost its second game in the matchup against Korea.

After keeping the score even through three ends, Korea scored three points in the fifth end to take a 5-3 lead.

In the second half of the game, Korea scored six points to the United States’ one point in the seventh end, resulting in an 11-4 final score.

“We didn’t execute super great in our first game of the day,” said Cory Christensen after the loss. “Our goal against Norway was to just go out and get rocks in better spots.”

Team USA regrouped, taking time to refuel and rest during the quick turnaround before Monday’s second game against Norway.

Two stolen ends in the first half of the game gave the Americans a 4-2 advantage.

“The girls came out firing on all cylinders,” added Christensen. “It was great to have a game like that, especially against a team like Norway who has a very similar record to us.”

Team USA didn’t let up in the second half, scoring eight points to Norway’s two, resulting in a 12-4 victory for the United States.

“It was great to have a good game like that and have some momentum going into Tuesday,” concluded Christensen.

On Tuesday, the Americans will look to add another tally to the win column, facing Germany at 4:00pm CDT. While the game won’t be televised, live scoring can be found at: https://worldcurling.org/live-scores/.
