Following a 0-2 start on the opening day of the 2021 World Women’s Curling Championship, Team USA, Tabitha Peterson, Nina Roth, Becca Hamilton, Tara Peterson, and Aileen Geving, navigated through a 13-game round robin comprised of the best women’s curling countries in the world.

At the conclusion of the round robin, Team USA achieved a 7-6 record, landing in fifth place in the overall standings, earning United States women’s curling a berth into the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

In addition to the Olympic berth, Team USA has advanced to the playoffs of the 2021 World Curling Championship and has been preparing all season to make a run to the gold medal game.

Having won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Curling National Championship and arriving at the 2020 World Women’s Curling Championship in Prince George only to have the event canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Team is making up for what feels like lost time.

“Qualifying the United States for the Olympics was level one, “ said Nina Roth, vice of Team Peterson. “Now it’s time to bring it home.”

The playoffs of the 2021 World Women’s Curling Championship begin today (Friday, May 8, 2021). As the fifth seed, the United States will face off against Denmark, an opponent who just narrowly escaped with the win when the two countries faced off in round robin play earlier this week.

The winner of that matchup will face off against Switzerland at 5:00 PM ET in the semi-final game.

“After qualifying for playoffs, the Team feels a renewed energy as if we’re entering into a new event,” said Jessica Schultz, Director of the Women’s National Team. “We’re happy to have met one goal of qualifying the United States for the Olympics, but are remaining focused on the goal of winning a World Championship.”
