TEAM HAMPTON OF MADISON CURLING CLUB WIN 2022 USA CURLING CLUB WOMEN’S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
On Mar. 21-26, 2022, Curl Mesabi in Eveleth, Minn., hosted the 2022 USA Curling Club National Championships.
The Championships welcomed ten men’s teams and ten women’s teams from across the country to form two respective fields.
Each field determined the 2022 USA Curling Club National Champion teams by completing a ten-team round robin before advancing four teams to the playoff division. In the playoffs, two semifinal games determined the teams that advanced to the gold medal game and the teams that would compete for bronze.
On the women’s side, it was the team representing the Madison Curling Club in McFarland, Wisconsin, that came out on top.
Mandy Hampton, Brandi Cochera, Sarah Kirchoff, Nicole Bookhout, and Rebecca Westphal went 5-4 through the round robin portion of the event and qualified for the playoffs by clinching the fourth seed with an 11-5 tiebreaker victory over Team Maywalt from Beaverton, Oregon.
In the semifinals, the Hampton-skipped rink faced the New Jersey-based team skipped by Nicole Prohaska.
After Team Prohasksa scored an impressive six points in the second end to take a four-point lead, Team Hampton clawed back, scoring every end after to win 11-6 in eight ends.
In the gold medal game, Team Hampton faced Team Danahey from Denver.
The score remained tight throughout the entirety of the game, but with a two-point lead in the final end, Team Hampton was able to limit Team Danahey to only one point to secure a 7-6 victory.
Team Hampton’s win earned the 2022 USA Curling Club Women’s National Championship title for the Madison Curling Club in McFarland, Wisconsin.
