[EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, October 20, 2026] — As the traditional curling season gets underway, USA Curling is pleased to announce new initiatives designed to make the sport more accessible, safer, and easier to follow. These efforts reflect the organization's commitment to supporting curlers at every level, from recreational players to dedicated fans of elite competition.

Recreational Rules of Curling

While USA Curling, with limited exceptions, follows the World Curling Rules of Curling at its events, the organization has recognized that many clubs are seeking guidance for league and bonspiel play. The Recreational Rules of Curling provide Member Clubs with options that can be used to provide clarity when following the World Curling rules don’t make sense.

These are intended to help clubs create structure while ensuring positive competitive environments at all levels and introducing new players to rules that are relevant to their games.

The Recreational Rules of Curling are available in Our House (ourhouse.usacurling.org) > Groups > Club Management > “General Resources” Session. Log in with your MyUSACurling.com credentials. A Current USA Curling Individual membership is required.

GuideLines for Responses to Suspected and Confirmed Head Injuries

To support clubs, volunteers, coaches, athletes, and event organizers, USA Curling has created a new set of guidelines to suggest best practices for preventing, recognizing, responding to, and preparing for potential incidents involving head injuries.

The guide provides practical information on symptom awareness, removal-from-play procedures, return-to-participation considerations, and recommended steps to help clubs create safer environments for all. The aim is to equip clubs, leaders, and members with a plan for what to do in the unfortunate case of a head injury on the ice, so present members are able and willing to assist the injured player, recognize when professional medical intervention is necessary, and know how to call for help and equip emergency responders with the information they need.

The Guidelines for Suspected and Confirmed Head Injuries are available in Our House (ourhouse.usacurling.org) > Groups > Club Management > “General Resources” Session. Log in with your MyUSACurling.com credentials. A Current USA Curling Individual membership is required.

Watch Curling—A Guide

As coverage continues to expand across television and streaming platforms, fans often find it challenging to know how and where events can be viewed. To address this need, USA Curling has launched the Watch Curling guide on its website, providing a centralized resource for viewing opportunities to help the curling community follow USA Curling and World Curling events.

The guide includes information on major domestic and international competitions, broadcast partners, streaming options, and links, all aimed to help fans easily follow their favorite athletes and events. New curlers will also find a reference to the Intro to Curling guide to help them follow the rules and lingo around the game.

To follow the action, find “Watch Curling” under the “Start Curling” tab of the header at usacurling.org.

Supporting the Growth of Curling

Together, these new resources represent USA Curling's ongoing commitment to strengthening the sport at every level.

"Whether someone is stepping onto the ice for the first time, participating in a local league, volunteering at their club, or following the action from home, we want to provide the tools and resources that help people enjoy and engage with curling," said Dean Gemmell, CEO of USA Curling. "These initiatives support our goals of making curling more accessible, improving safety across the sport, and helping fans connect with the incredible competitions taking place throughout the season."

All three resources are now availeble and are part of the organization's broader efforts to support clubs, athletes, members, and curling communities across the country.
